SO WHAT IS A CAR FREE SUNDAY BURLINGTON EVENT?

During a car free event, roads are closed to vehicular traffic and opened to pedestrians – whether strolling, wheeling, walking, cycling, or roller-blading. In addition to having access to the roadways, independent organizations and community groups make the route come alive with a variety of activities.

These events promote alternative means of transportation, create vibrant neighbourhoods with friendly neighbours, and healthy, active lifestyles.

2013 CAR FREE SUNDAYS

Burlington community partners will be hosting two Car Free Sunday events in 2013. The City of Burlington will be a proud sponsor of both events. The events will take place on June 9 and June 23.

Car Free Street Festival on Appleby Line

A Ward 4 and 5 volunteer community group has been working closely with Ward 4 Councillor Jack Dennison and Ward 5 Councillor Paul Sharman on this year’s southeast Car Free Sunday Street Festival. On June 9, the event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Appleby Line, between New Street and Fairview Street.

Car Free in Ward 6

On June 23, Ward 6 Councillor Blair Lancaster will be hosting Alton’s first-ever Car Free Sunday event. The event will take place on Palladium Way, starting at 2 p.m. Many community partners will be hosting the Car Free event.

Many events will be taking place at each Car Free Sunday event. Come out and make a difference in your community.

The Burlington Cycling Committee will be hosting casual bike rides throughout the City of Burlington, starting in May. Two of the bike rides will take place during the Car Free Sunday events. For more information, please visit www.burlington.ca/cycling

BURLINGTON AND CAR FREE SUNDAY

Burlington is making a difference in our community, in the nation, and in the world, so naturally who wouldn’t be excited about its Car Free Sundays program? The City of Burlington is working with the community to promote safe, active and healthy lifestyles. Car Free Sundays are part of that.

We love to see people living, playing and thriving. Car Free Sundays Burlington has brought families and neighbourhoods together by making the streets come alive with activity. These events also promote physical activity for people of all ages and abilities by influencing them to Get Up, Get Out and Get Moving.

It is about getting out together to make a difference in the environment.
