HDSB’s BASEF winners!

The Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) was held last week, May 10-17, in Windsor, ON. Students representing Hamilton, Halton Region, Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant Counties, and Six Nations competed, with their trips funded by awards won at the 54th annual Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair in March.

BASEF 2014 HDSB Winners: HDSB’s sixteen competitors brought home 14 awards: one gold medal, three silver medals, seven bronze medals, two Challenge Awards and one interdisciplinary award. Continue reading

Junior Citizen of The Year

There were six phenomenal nominees this year for Burlington’s Best Junior Citizen of the Year. I don’t know how on earth any committee could choose between these deserving young people. Each of them are remarkable, generous, kind volunteers that manage to do so much for others and our community, all while working hard at school. Welcome Student Trustees Jovan & Sophie

I was very impressed with the speeches prepared by Jovan and Sophie. Thank you for attending our May 7th Board meeting. You are the first Student Trustees to have been elected by HDSB gr7-12 students. Congratulations! My heartfelt thanks to outgoing Student Trustees, Allison Zheng and Zoha Khan: Girls, you have been wonderful to work with. I’ve enjoyed hearing your views and listening to you share the student perspective on the issues we tackle at the Board table. We will miss you!
