In 2013, the HDSB capital budget was $60million. Following considerable inquiry from trustees, the Director developed a new procedure, HDSB Administrative Procedure Capital Projects (Construction Protocol). The new procedure calls for a summative Report on projects to go to the Board following 8-10 months of the operations of the new school. This Report is to include a financial update comparing the original budget to the actual expenditures, changes made and deficiencies. In addition, it will report on the functionality of the building generated through consultations with all those who occupy it.
This new Admin Procedure will be used in June 2014 to review the construction of Milton’s Irma Coulson Public School, which opened to students in September 2013. It is hoped that by formalizing this review, all future capital projects will benefit.
The May 21st Board meeting package is now available. I have separated & uploaded each item to make it easier for you to investigate whichever report interests you the most. Some reports you may wish to compare to previous Board packages found in my Board May 7th and Board Apr 16th posts.
As always, please do not hesitate to call, email or text me if you have any questions or comments. Likewise, I’m sure your will also be happy to hear from you! Continue reading

THANK YOU very much to everyone for providing HDSB trustees with 43 pages of Internet Filtering Feedback. Your responses contain many diverse, well thought out opinions. I really appreciate your engagement. Background information on the issue of filtering at Halton schools can be found here: Internet Filter – yes or no?
Responses are divided into four categories. Unfortunately, although many of our staff are also parents of our students, they could not click off more than one category:
- staff member
- other (those who did not identify their category)
Trustees will read all the input and reflect upon it. We welcome your opinion right up until this issue returns to the Board table for a vote on Jun 4th. Please feel free to comment on this blog, or if you prefer to be anonymous, call or email me or .
